Sometimes I think that we, as a community, have the attention span of a 3 year old. So, let me throw some Lotusphere reminders out for your consideration.
IdeaJam has two IdeaSpaces dedicated to Lotusphere. There is a general Lotusphere IdeaSpace, and one dedicated to the LS09 Best Practices Track. To gauge interest in possible sessions in the Best Practices Track, Rocky and Mac are asking that you add your session idea to the IdeaSpace. Even if you have no plans to submit an abstract, wander over there and take a look at some of the session ideas. Vote on the ones that interest you. The Lotusphere IdeaSpace has some excellent and fun ideas; buses running after 9PM, more coffee, better beer selection, bonfires using Microsoft brochures, DVD/USB of all presentations (like the Admin Conference provides). Both of those IdeaSpaces are worthy of your time.
Why Go To Lotusphere. The answer comes from Jack Dausman, who writes about Lotusphere 2009, "This may be the most important Lotusphere since the launch of R5, and I am planning to attend." If you think that you will need some help in selling Lotusphere to the boss, or you want to know what you can expect by attending, last year I pulled together some links to help you market Lotusphere internally. You might think that you have a lot of time to approach the budget level manager, but rooms in the Dolphin and Swan are already waitlisted and the other conference hotels will probably start to fill up. Sooner rather than later. I personally never worry about registering for Lotusphere, but getting a conference hotel is another matter entirely. Once you have received your approval, registered, and have your hotel, prepare yourself, by reading 10 Things I Learned from IBM’s Lotusphere 2008 to Help Prepare for Lotusphere 2009! Luis posts some excellent advice for maximizing your time at Lotusphere. The beauty of this post is that he wrote it shortly after returning from Lotusphere 2008, so his thoughts are fresh. Finally, you need to attend if only to score Julian's Lotusphere 2009 Predictions.
Lotusphere Bloggers Lounge. There are, currently, 299 Lotus Notes/Domino bloggers listed on PlanetLotus. There should be a few more participants in the discussions surrounding Keith's Bloggers Lounge. It isn't that difficult to contribute to the conversation as he has created several avenues for participation, including a Lotus Connections Community and an Activity at BleedYellow.com. This is an opportunity to engage more people in the blogosphere, get some more/different voices, and have an area where the bloggers can have some time to interact with their readers. I sense many posts coming from this little corner of Lotusphere. Providing a place for bloggers, and their readers, to interact is popular at many conferences. It also provides another avenue for attendees to engage speakers. Lotusphere should not be any different.
GonzoWiki. From the wiki Start Page:The Turtle felt it was much better to have the Lotus community maintain the Gonzo Lotusphere collective memory, in part because he runs short of time to actually do it. In previous years he frequently lost sleep and lost weight maintaining the site, and wikifying the information seemed to be the best way to ensure that it's kept up to date and made as complete as possible. Many eyes are better than two, except when you're all trying to share the telescope. Turtle explains "why" here. The beauty of this wiki is that it is the same one that you can get for free at OpenNTF. Where else could you find a map of liquor stores close to Disney (or think to even ask?) or what to expect from the Sunday Night Welcome Reception?
PlanetLotus Lotusphere2009 Search. Keep on top of the blog posts by using this search. While it is effective, I am sure that Yancy will remind us about some feature of PlanetLotus that will make this link look . . . dated. :-)
