I have to thank a few referrers for this
post. While the price has gone up and the hotels are filling, there are
some that want an answer to the question "Why go to Lotusphere?"
before they actually approach the boss or ask for funding. To that end,
I have found some good links that may help answer that Big Question (in
no particular order):
The Taking Notes Podcast - Bruce and Julian have done an outstanding job of creating podcasts of all things Lotus Notes/Domino. The link will limit the podcasts to just ones that deal with Lotusphere. If you only want to listen to a few, I strongly recommend "Meet the The Turtle" and "Lotusphere 2008 with Sandra Marcus from IBM." Apologies to Bruce and Julian if I overlooked better/additional choices.
Ed Brill: Lotusphere 2006 and Partner Attendance. In this blog entry, Ed calls on Lotus Business Partners to make the trek. He calls it a "rant" but actually, it is very close to the truth. This link is for all of the IBM Business Partners that say "it's too expensive." It costs you more not to go.
The Gonzo Lotusphere FAQ - Before blogs, wikis, Flickr, and such, there was the Gonzo Lotusphere Page. This has been "The Source" of all things Lotusphere for so long (so long that The Turtle must be getting tired of it). It stills stands the test of time. While there may be other sources on the 'net with more recent information, this is probably the first place you should start. Everything is in one place, including the sarcasm, and a view of 'Sphere that you get no where else. Still one of my favorites.
Paul Mooney: Why Go to Lotusphere? A great write-up by a great individual. He tells you the exact benefits he gets from the conference. Ones that you, too, will enjoy.
Warren Elsmore: The Lotusphere Justification Document. Warren was nice to post a justification that he wrote up to attend Lotusphere. With a few minor tweaks, you can present it to your boss/manager. And then we'll get to see you in Orlando. Yeah, it is that good.
And finally:
The Official IBM Lotusphere General Information on Lotusphere. You may be able to glean some additional talking points from the site.
So, there you have it. Some darn good links to the reasons why you should go to Lotusphere. If there are others that should be spotlighted, please let me know. I can only surf the internet for so long. :-)
