After reading Tom Duff's review of Happiness at Work: Maximizing Your Psychological Capital for Success, which looks like an excellent book, it seemed appropriate to share an article from eWeek, How to Make the Best of Being Unhappy at Work. While some of the article's methods to stop feeling unhappy seem rather "light," I call your attention to the final paragraphs:
It isn't easy to gain new skills, for that to happen you have to give up something else, sleep, a little family time, maybe a weekend or two. However, the return on that investment could provide you with more marketable talents (inside and outside your organization), a better outlook, and even an improved attitude. If you plan on remaining within your current organization, make sure that the skills you pick up mesh with the needs of the organization. It would be easier to sell your manager if you are looking for training assistance.

One way to help re-energize your career, especially for information technology workers, is to gain new skills, new certifications and meet new people. Put yourself out there, network and invest in your future.
"Learning new skills or technologies, meeting new people and facing new challenges [are great ways] to keep your mind off the fact that you aren't in love with your job," said Lauren Milligan of ResuMayDay.com in the same Careerpath.com article.
