Remember when I told you about the cold snap? Well, now it's time for some snow:
The best part about this is that they are telling us that the majority of the snow should be arriving in time for afternoon rush hour.
Perfect.
Update: It took me 3 hours to get home, with what is usually an hour (+/-) commute. Along the way, I had to stop twice. Once, to clean off the windshield of ice. That was when I found out that the tips of the wipers had broken off from the rest of the wiper. For the rest of the commute, I enjoyed the soothing sounds of ice blocks scraping across the windshield, while building up little icebergs. Then, I got to hear them click, click, click as they went across the windshield. As if that wasn't good enough, I had to pull over a second time to let the engine cool. Yep, the Jeep overheated. Creeped home at about 15mph, watching the temperature gauge, willing it to stay within normal. All the while keeping a watchful eye on the other, idiot drivers. Case in point: While I got off the road, pulled into a service station to clean off my windshield, others thought it would be a good idea just to stop, in the road, and do the same. And that was not uncommon. I must have saw 5-8 drivers that did that.
My other observation was that the standard tires on my wife's car aren't worth a damn in snow. Too much "performance" and not enough "snow traction." I think that a trip to look at alternative tires for her is in order. I really never gave it much thought, until I had to get her car in the garage this evening, and discovered that there is some traction, but not enough to make me feel good. Maybe a nice set of chains? :-)
