Location : Cleveland, OH
Laugh if you must, but Epcot holds a special place in my heart. Why? Well, in just a few short hours, you can have a native beer from every country in the World Showcase Pavilions. And enjoy them in the warmth of the Florida sun. But then you head back home. What to do now? We have a couple of really good beer stores in Cleveland. One that is a chain, Trader Joe's, has a wonderful selection of beers. Not a Bud, Miller, or Heineken in sight. We also have Winking Lizard's, which promote their World Beer Tour (sample 100 beers from around the world in one calendar year). Very popular.
Here are some of my personal favorites.
Best beer in Cleveland can be found at Great Lakes Brewery. Pretty much all beer stores, in and around Cleveland, carry their products. The best of the best? Dortmunder Gold and Christmas Ale. Do yourself a huge favor and sample these beers. The Christmas Ale is an extremely popular seasonal. Dortmunder is their flagship beer. And if you happen to find yourself in Cleveland, make it a point to drop by their brewery for an excellent meal coupled with outstanding beers.
Guinness. The ultimate beer.
Smoked Beer. This one was suggested to me by a friend that spent time in Germany. He actually went to Bamburg, specifically to find this beer. Interesting taste, one that has to be tried. I can tell you right now, that this one is not for everyone. A very unique beer.
San Miguel. A lot of the beers that come from warmer climates have little or no taste. This one is different. Especially the dark beer. Better to have one of these than a Corona. No fruit needed.
Paulaner Hefe-Weizen. For some reason, these types of beers are popping up all over Cleveland. It used to be very difficult to find them, but not any longer. And for a good reason. If you buy any Hefe-Weizen's, be sure to roll the bottle before opening the beer. You need to properly move the yeast off of the bottom of the bottle.
Yinpu Black Rice Beer. This is an extremely good beer at a great price. The more popular Chinese beer is Tsingtao, but this one appears black, but is not a heavy beer. Very little head, great, refreshing taste. Worth seeking out.
Yuenling. From America's oldest brewery. They do not distribute to all corners of the USA, but if you live in an area that they do, you are lucky. We can't get it in Cleveland, but I can pick it up when we go on vacation or if we travel through Pennsylvania.
I wonder what this list says about me? All I know is life is too short for crappy beer.
