After finishing Head Games, I asked the library to get me Thomas Cavanagh's first novel, Murderland.
Murderland, by Thomas B. Cavanagh, centers around a theme park in Orlando. Empire Realms, on par with Disney and Universal, needs to have a great season as the parent company, a Hollywood movie studio, isn't having a great year. Everything starts out wonderfully for the park, until a dead body shows up inside the park. One that was found by a tourist. Not good for attendance. The chief of security at the park elists an old police buddy, Kevin Lonnegan, to go undercover and find the killer. But Kevin has some heavy baggage, his wife and child were killed by a drunk driver, which led Kevin to the bottle and to eventually leaving the force. And then the next body appears, increasing the pressure on Kevin to solve this quickly (remember, tourist dollars drives the economy of Central Florida).
Another excellent novel from Cavanagh. You will get an very good idea about the inner workings of a major theme park, especially what it may be like to work a ride (Kevin's job is to unload people from a themed roller coaster). And I really enjoy that the hero isn't perfect. Far from it. There comes some points in the novel where Kevin has some major choices to make, and you can feel the emotions in his conflicted soul. As you can tell, I was taken by the writing. It looks like Cavanagh did his research, with the theme parks and addictions. And it pays off.
If you are looking for a novel centering around a serial killer in a major Orlando theme park, this is the one. Excellent book.
