Question
Is the Lotus Notes client supported on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services? You are unclear as to whether Lotus Notes clients are supported in a Terminal environment on Windows Terminal server without Citrix MetaFrame installed. In this scenario, the Notes client would be installed on a Windows 2003 terminal client and on Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services.
Answer
No, the Notes client is not designed or supported to run in this scenario (using a Windows Terminal client and Windows Server Terminal Services). A Notes client can run on a Windows 2003 or 2008 Terminal Server only if Citrix MetaFrame is used as well. While Windows Server Terminal Services emulation with Lotus Notes can work, this configuration is not supported.
A correct assumption would be that Citrix MetaFrame was not being used.
As the network administrator was attempting to determine how to workaround this "setback," I continued to search for possible answers on PlanetLotus and the Forums. In the Notes/Domino 8.5 Forum, I found, and turned over to the network administrator, this (somewhat edited from the original):
1) After installing 8.5.1, search for the notes,ini and it should not appear in the windows folder. Delete it if you found it there.
2) The notes.ini file should appear in c:\documents and settings\All users\application data\lotus\notes\data\ and the content in it should be: (please note the actual path should be according to your environment)
[Notes]
KitType=1
SharedDataDirectory=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\Data\Shared
InstallType=6
3) edit the following registry entries:
[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\DataPath] Remove the value.
[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\MultiUser] Change the value from 0 to 1.
[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0\DataPath] Remove the value.
[HKLM\Software\Lotus\Notes\8.0\MultiUser] Change the value from 0 to 1.
Moments later, I was confronted by a very happy administrator, as he had Notes 8.5.1 running successfully on Microsoft Terminal Server. The downside is that there will probably be no support from Lotus for this configuration.

All,
We installed using the Standard Client so we could take advantage of Widgets from the devlopment standpoint.
NOTE: one variation from the article Gregg supplied was the registry key that is referenced to HKLM\SOFTWARE... on our 64Bit install it was HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lotus

I am now faced with a different issue.
I am utilizing Terminal Server Profiles redirection VIA GPO
I am see that Notes has put information into c:/Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/AppData instead of \\UNC-Path-to-Server\TSPROFILES\username\AppData.
Because of this, I can login 10 times as a user and everytime I open Notes it acts like it's the first time.
If I login remote or local as administrator all is well with no issues whatsoever . . .
Been extra busy and havent tried to correct yet, but I will post back when I get time to correct the issue.

@Michael - I remember having that problem, too. Double check that you updated all the Registry settings properly.

We found in this instance the issues were that Roaming Profiles in Notes made the server very angry. Once I converted to a non roaming user it has worked like a charm except the fact it still forces the local profile to *documents and settings-local settings-app data* instead of the roaming profile path that all other items are going into...

I have one windows terminal server with multiple Notes 7.x. instances. No issues from 5 years ago. You can read here how to deploy --> http://juanfco.ruiz.name/A55AAB/lbh.nsf/articles/HALL-6U3QC5.I supose it will work with notes 8.5 basic. It's easy to try.
