An interesting twist the "Red X" issue: You forward an e-mail with an embedded .bmp image and the recipient gets the "Red X." Lotus has released a new TechNote that addresses this issue as it seems to occur in Releases 6, 6.5, 7, and 8.
The Red X, in case you were wondering what it looks like:
The solution is a workaround:
Don't use the Forward button when forwarding a message with an embedded .bmp image. Instead, open the message and within the message body, right-click and select Forward. This will accurately render the image in the forwarded message.
I am sure that users will be thrilled with having to modify their behavior for forwarding e-mails with embedded bmp files.
There is an SPR on this issue, SPR #AONL7BUHHX.

it's better than nothing (The workaround) but I must admit that it's a debatable one
