Walking out of Best Buy today, after I had just purchased Radiohead's In Rainbows, this exchange took place:
Number One Son: "Is it any good?"
Number Two Son: "All the music Dad buys is good."
If you don't recall, Number Two son made me extremely proud one day, when he told his classmates that his favorite song was Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum means something to my kids. :-)

To your kids perhaps, but not to me...
Rush, Genesis and Yes -- all snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But let's here it for Miles Davis, Madonna and Bonnie Raitt.
'Cause... y'know.... Sketches in the Sun, Like a Virgin, and I Can't Make You Love Me are seminal rock classics, while Tom Sawyer, Land of Confusion, and Roundabout are, I guess, unworthy of recognition.
I'm glad your kids like a brilliant band like Zep, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should mean the victory of mediocrity and marketing over passion and talent to them. It's the ECMA of music.

PS: just to be clear, Radiohead is a great band. And Immigrant Song is on my shuffle list of stuff that plays while I'm in a coding trance. So don't take my rant on some massively biased self-proclaimed expert institution to mean that they don't also recognize genuine talent, too.

@Gregg,
I feel that I've failed as a father now. My kids hate my music. Well, actually, that's too strong. Ever since Guitar Hero, I've seen a dramatic shift for them to classic rock. My youngest says Led Zepplin is his favorite band. My 16 year old was play Beatles in his room last night and my daughter borrows my Queen cd's. They hate my Jam music.
For RadioHead, I've not yet joined their ranks. I love the song Creep. But, I've not taken to anything else. If you have a cd to recommend, I'd love to give it a few listens.
@Nathan,
I didn't know these bands have been snubbed. That's a crime. I usually find some good bands in their annual show and enjoy the concert on tv. It's better than the Grammy's.
Speaking of injustice, how did Rolling Stone rank Eddie Van Halen 70th out of 100 Greatest Guitarists? What planet are they on? http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5937559/the_100_greatest_guitarists_of_all_time/

Yeeeeeees! Immigrant Song is one of my favs because it makes me feel like campaigning every time I hear it. I think it's the "come from the land of the ice and snow where the...." phrase!

@Nathan - You get no argument out of me. I find it hard to believe the bands that aren't in the Hall of Fame (HOF). I think it took a major event to get them to induct Black Sabbath. And since you pointed out Rush, Genesis, and Yes - - unbelievable. Maybe they induct to get traffic at the HOF?
@Curt - for some reason, probably a video game, the kids are now listening to The Police. Not only do I have all the CD's, I have memorabilia from both the Ghost in the Machine Tour and the Syncronicity Tour. They couldn't believe it.
@Jess - Son Number Two knows all the words, which cracks me up. I told him when he was born, he didn't cry, he said: "A-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah"
