I will apologize here if your mail doesn't immediately reach me today and tomorrow as we have implemented a new anti-spam/anti-virus scanning service.
I have been contemplating using an appliance/service for a while. Most notably, I was looking at several choices in this space, Barracuda, Postini, and MX Logic. The short answers of why didn't I choose any of these is this:
Postini - didn't return my calls, but I do have several clients that use the service and are extremely happy with them and their Tech Support. Besides, my little mail server probably isn't serving up enough mail for them to worry about.
MX Logic - scheduled a conference call with them and they didn't show up (and they called me directly).
Barracuda - would have to own a piece of hardware (not a bad idea, but frankly, I am not up to it).
During a routine call to my co-location provider, I asked if they had an anti-spam/anti-virus service. For a nominal monthly charge, they are now scanning all of my mail. And I get a web interface to the quarantine queue and additional configuration options. Plus, they have very, very good Tech Support. I will still incorporate the native Domino anti-spam features (to keep out the spiders) but I am looking forward to the additional benefit of using the new service.
While mail to this domain may get quarantined, we will not lose any messages. I just have to remember to get to the web interface a couple of times a day and purge/route the messages. And play around with the additional configuration options.

Gregg, I can attest that the ownership burden of the Barracuda is extremely low. I go in once every couple of weeks to train the Bayes filter, otherwise it's mostly hands off. They'll send you a free demo unit if you want to try one out. I don't work for them and I'm not affiliated in any way, I just really really like their product. If you have any questions about it or just want to talk to a real customer give me a shout.
Personally, Postini and MX Logic would be my last choices, mostly because they have per-mailbox charges that add up extremely quickly. The Barracuda does not, it's a fixed price for unlimited mailboxes.
Good luck with the spam filtering, it's an unfortunate necessity and I hope your colo provider has something industrial strength.
