This is the first novel by Joseph Finder
that I have read. I recieved Killer
Instinct, which is an advance
readers copy, from Duffbert.
The novel won't hit the bookstores until May.
Jason Steadman is a salesman for a large electronics firm based in Boston. He was once on the fast track, but somewhere along the line, lost, as his wife says, his "killer instinct." That all changes when he meets Kurt, ex-Special Forces, who is now driving a tow truck. Because of Jason's assistance, Kurt lands a job in security with the electronics company. From then on, Jason's career takes off, as his internal competitors seem to have a run of bad luck. Early on, Jason is pretty happy with the way things are turning out. Then he learns a little more about Kurt, and his rise in the company doesn't seem so "lucky." In fact, you could say that Kurt is taking care of everyone that stands in his way as he heads to the top. Kurt is a guy that seems have always had the killer instinct, and uses it as he sees fit to help his 'friends.' Heaven help you if you find yourself on his enemy's list.
Like Jason, the reader is pulled along at a pretty fast pace through the book. You like Jason, he is a good guy, but his bosses don't think too much of him or his ideas even though he has some excellent ways to open untapped markets for the electronics firm. Joseph Finder does an excellent job of incorporating current technology into the story, lending a very authentic (and creepy) feel to the problems that Jason faces. And the fact that it occurs in Corporate America, with all of the personalities, corporate politics, and fast pace lifestyle, makes this an outstanding read.
When this book comes out, I highly recommend reading it.
