I think that I may have decided to use the word "Awareness" instead of "Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing." It's either that or "Sametime," and there may be some IBM'ers that may not like that term. But I digress.
One would think that it should be easy to get Chat in iNotes. I know that I thought that. Until the other day. I go the chat button to show up in the iNotes 6.5.x client, that wasn't a big deal. But to get it to actually work, well, that was another thing altogether. After a few frustrating hours, checking and double checking the configuration, the server Connection Documents, I decided it was time to go back to Square One. Looked at the IBM TechNotes, and found the article titled "Complete Steps to Configure Sametime Integration with DWA 6.5.x." I went through each of those steps to make sure that I didn't miss anything. Nope, I was spot on. However, at the end of the TechNote, there was a reference to another TechNote, "When Sametime is Configured for Tunneling, Chat, and Awareness Do not Work in DWA 6.5.x." Hmm. Sounded interesting, even though we are not using tunneling. But chat and awareness weren't working. That was the TechNote that fixed the issue. Copied the two lines from the Hostinfo.js to the beginning of the Stlinks.js file. Restarted my iNotes session, and I was chatting in the iNotes client. Too cool. The best part? No need to reboot either Domino server.
It really helped to take a deep breath, go back to the beginning, and walk through the integration steps. This also confirms that there is a wealth of information and knowledge out there from IBM. If you take the time to use it. Which is also one of my pet peeves with those that post at Notes Net without either searching for an answer or refusing to RTFM.
