News hitting wires is that Dell is adding Windows XP as an operating system option on some of their systems. This, just after offering Linux as an OS choice.
It wasn't very long ago that the manufacturers moved in lockstep with Microsoft. But now . . . I would expect that the other major vendors will soon be offering the same choice(s), if only to stay competitive with Dell. Personally, I wasn't too keen on getting a couple of machines for family members with Vista loaded on them. Now, I have a much better choice and will order the XP loaded Dell's.
And before you ask, yes, I did want to move them to the Mac, but there is some serious push back from an older demographic. Macs on their desktops would have been self-serving. Instead of calling me for support, they could call their grandchildren. And I would have loved to pass the phone to them. :-)

I didn't see that coming. Not with all of the Vista hype. But I welcome it, nonetheless.
