As the Lotus community shifts their attention to the annual gathering in Orlando, and the bloggers are ramping up their Lotusphere News/Tips/Tricks/Live Blogging/Conversations, I wondered about the power of the tags and search.
Today, I looked at Google and Technorati for some help with Lotusphere posts. Using "Lotusphere 2007" and Lotusphere2007 for the search criteria brings back some vastly different results.
Google Lotusphere2007 (blog search) - 112
Google Lotusphere 2007 (blog search) - 105
Google Lotusphere 2007 - 187,000
Google Lotusphere2007 - 17,300
Technorati Lotusphere2007 - 15
Technorati Lotusphere 2007 - 427
Technorati Lotusphere2007 (in tags) - 0
Technorati Lotusphere 2007 (in tags) - 53
Microsoft Live Lotusphere 2007 - 30,157
Microsoft Live Lotusphere2007 - 206
In sheer number of hits, Google is the leader. The other end of the spectrum, Technorati, begs the question "Where is the value in tagging your posts?" This is by no means scientific, but I was guessing that the results would be relatively close. I was really wrong.
Other than the fact that it looks like Google is your friend, what other lesson can I learn from this?
Technorati tag: search Google Technorati Microsoft Live

I manually enter the Technorati tags when I remember or want to bother. Google must just spider content well.
You going to Lotusphere? I didn't see your name in the Lotusphere site. I started setting up contacts in SameTime.

@Curt - Sadly, no, I will not be there. But, I am holding out hope for Admin2007. Not the same, I know, but it should recharge my Lotus battery, too.

I stopped adding Technorati tags on my entries, partially because they are a pain in the butt with Blogger, and new post I make still show up on there. A lot of my hits lately are coming off of there. I'm popular! Well, not really, but one or two a day makes me like it
